DLT ENTERTAINMENT SOLVES THE MERRILY WATKINS MYSTERIES
DLT acquires the worldwide rights to the Merrily Watkins series by Phil Rickman
London, UK, 26 September 2006: DLT Entertainment has acquired the worldwide rights to the critically acclaimed Merrily Watkins series of novels written by Phil Rickman, announced Don Taffner Jr, President of DLT Entertainment today.
A mixture of crime, fantasy and realism, the Merrily Watkins series is made up of eight novels (with more to come) and follows the life of Diocesan Deliverance Consultant, Reverend Watkins, as she attempts to understand and overcome the paranormal influences which are wreaking havoc in the diocese. Not an average Reverend, Rickman gives the stereotypical view of parish priests a wide birth and creates a more realistic Merrily; a chain smoking single Mum, who has never wanted a picture-postcard parish – or a huge and haunted vicarage. As for her daughter, Jane – what angst ridden teenager, struggling with the pressures of adolescence, would want her mother to be a vicar?
Adapting the series is writer David Gilman (A Touch of Frost) who is developing the novels into a continuing series for television. DLT will be meeting with the UK broadcasters shortly to discuss this exciting project.
Don Taffner Jr, President of DLT Entertainment said, “The Merrily Watkins novels are a highly regarded series with an extraordinary loyal fan base. With the help of David Gilman we hope to bring to screen the unique characteristics of Merrily and delve into a criminal, paranormal genre yet to be explored by DLT Entertainment.”
