DLT Entertainment joins forces with Waddell Media
MY FAMILY producer, DLT Entertainment, teams up with leading Northern Ireland production company, Waddell Media
London 24 September 2009. Award-winning production and distribution company, DLT Entertainment, today announced an exciting partnership with Northern Ireland’s leading independent production company, Waddell Media. The two companies will work together, pooling their expertise and production know how with a plan to produce comedies for UK and international broadcasters and help them increase their production commitment in the regions.
Both DLT Entertainment and Waddell Media have well-established reputations in the industry for producing and distributing exciting and original programming to countries around the world.
DLT Entertainment has enjoyed terrific success over the last forty plus years with legendary hits including the multiple award-winning sitcom My Family which recently celebrated broadcast of its 100th episode, As Time Goes By, Three’s Company, Too Close For Comfort, and Meet My Folks. DLT has also built a reputation as a top distribution company, selling its own shows across the globe as well as representing productions of third party producers.
Award winning Waddell Media has 20 years of experience as a production company making factual and factual entertainment programmes for both the UK and international market. Most recent successes have included How Long Will You Live and At Your Service for RTE, How Bruce Lee Changed the World for the History Channel US, Future Weapons and Ultimate Weapons for the Discovery Channel and The Priests for ITV1.
DLT Entertainment and Waddell Media have decided to form a joint venture to jump start the process of developing and producing comedies in Northern Ireland. The combination of DLT Entertainment’s expertise in producing comedies such as award winning My Family - which was recently singled out by the BBC Trust as one of the few comedy successes on BBC One- and Waddell’s production experience makes for a unique combination that cannot be duplicated.
Development will focus on single and multi camera comedies. In addition, animated projects will be developed with Waddell’s subsidiary company Flickerpix Animations. Projects for development will be written by individual writers, or evolve from a US style table system which DLT introduced to the UK with My Family.
Distribution of the programmes produced under this partnership will be done by DLT Entertainment.
Don Taffner Jr, President of DLT Entertainment commented; “Teaming up with a company like Waddell Media that has such a great reputation will allow us to quickly put programmes in development and production in Northern Ireland to allow broadcasters to air programmes such as the award winning and highly rated ones we are well known for and also give them an opportunity to meet their outside of London production quotas.”
Jannine Waddell, Managing Director of Waddell Media, said; “This is an exciting new venture for us. DLT has an amazing track record and together we look forward to nurturing new and existing talent with the aim of having a returning comedy series coming out of Northern Ireland in the very near future.
Jon-Barrie Waddell, Creative Director of Waddell Media who heads up the New York office says “The new partnership evolved through Waddell Media’s continued expansion in the US with a range of new synergies and deals coming out of our recently opened New York office. Our long-term goal is to build relationships to exploit the best creative and production talent in Ireland, not just for the UK but the international market.”
